| BLESSING Okagbare has become the first Nigerian ever to win an individual sprint double at a global sports meeting when she raced home to clinch the women's 200 metres title at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games tonight. In blistering form at the moment, Blessing blew away all her opponents as she picked up her second gold in a week, winning the 200 metres in 22.25 seconds. In the 100 metres, she broke the championship record on Monday with a time of 10.85 seconds, making her the undoubted star of the tournament. Since the Commonwealth Games began, Blessing is only fourth person ever to win a sprint double in the same tournament and only the is the 11th athlete to have won both the 100 and the 200 metres. Blessing remains on course to make that three gold medals as she anchors Nigeria's women's 4x100 relay team, which competes over the weekend. Blessing, 25, who had a disappointing London 2012 Olympics, is now looking forward to winning the World Athletics Championship next year and the 2016 Olympics coming up in Rio de Janeiro in 2018. At both events, she will now be one of the main contenders for gold in both the sprint events. Nigeria had further good news tonight when Ese Brume won the women's long jump with a leap of 6.56 metres. Blessing would have competed in the long jump event herself but it clashed with her 200 metres, so she chose the latter over the former and Ese took the opportunity with both hands. | TEAM Nigeria has jumped top eighth in the Glasgow Commonwealth Games after picking up three gold medals yesterday via wrestlers Aminat Adeniyi and Odunayo Adekuoroye and weightlifter Maryan Usman. On course to make the Glasgow games Nigeria's best ever Commonwealth outing, the team has six gold, five silver and eight bronze medals with three days of competition still left. At the last Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, in India in 2010, Nigeria won 11 gold, 10 silver and 14 bronze medals, coming ninth overall and the current team hopes to beat this. At the Clyde Auditorium yesterday, Maryan Usman clinched gold in the women's 280kg category, lifting 125kg in the snatch and 155kg in the clean and jerk. This was topped up with Aminat Adeniyi winning gold in the women's 58kg freestyle wrestling by beating her Indian opponent Sakshi Malik and Odunayo Adekuoroye clinching top spot in the women's 53kg women's wrestling after beating Lalita Lalita of India. Nigeria also picked up two bronze medals in wrestling yesterday. Amas Daniel beat England's Sasha Madyarchyk in the men's 61kg freestyle competition, while Hannah Reuben beat South Africa's Refilwe Molongwana in the women's 69kg freestyle wrestling. Later on today, Team Nigeria remains on course to pick up more medals, especially in the women's 200 metres where Blessing Okagbare will be featuring in the semi finals and finals. Yesterday, she breezed through the first round in a time of 22.99 seconds and remains the favourite to clinch the gold medal in addition to her 100 meters victory. |

After collaborating with American rapper T.I., the pop group consisting of Peter and Paul Okoye, is getting help from American singer and occasional film director Jermaine Jackson on the album.
Late Michael Jackson‘s brother is in Nigerian to help the “Chop My Money” stars with the album. An elated Peter said, “he said it and he’s finally here.”
No word yet on if he is collaborating, or producing a track.
Jermaine joined Peter in the P-Square mansion – Squareville. He later partied with other Nigerian stars at 2Face Idibia‘s Ascension album launch.

Glasgow 2014: Okagbare targets treble

Were it not for the track and field schedule, Nigerian Blessing Okagbare could almost be expected to be going for four medals at the Commonwealth Games, AFP reports.
The 25-year-old scorched to a commanding victory in the women’s 100-metre at Hampden Park on Monday, timing a Games record of 10.85 seconds, the sole sprinter in a strong field including Jamaican duo Veronica Campbell-Brown and Kerron Stewart to dip under the 11 sec barrier.
Okagbare, eighth in the 100 metres at the London Olympics but a long jump bronze medallist in Beijing in 2008 at the age of 19, was quick to point to a potential treble, as she also plans to compete in her favoured 200 metres as well as the 4×100-metre relay.
“Everything this year has been really based on the Commonwealth Games,” said the US-based Nigerian, who confirmed her promise when winning long jump silver and 200-metre bronze at the World Championships in Moscow last year.
“This year for me is like an off year but at the same time I wanted to come here and actually put on a good show.
“I am happy that my training led to these Games and everything came out well and to break the Commonwealth record is an amazing feeling.
“Every preparation has been made for the Commonwealth Games. My previous meets were not that fast but I just had to trust that I was going to be ready and everything fell in place.”
Okagbare added: “This is my first Commonwealth Games and I wanted to go out and first of all have fun but at the same time I wanted to win a gold medal.
“It does take the pressure off a little bit but it doesn’t mean I can sit down and do no more. I just have to keep working hard to keep on top of my fitness and shape in the Games.”
On that note, Okagbare said: “Is it possible that I could be going for a treble gold (100 metres, 200 metres and relay)? I would say yes.”
Unfortunately for Okagbare, qualification for the long jump and 200 metres are both on Wednesday, with the finals of the two events slated for Thursday evening, meaning a tilt at the long jump is extremely unlikely.
Heats for the 4×100 metres relay, however, are on Friday, with the final on Saturday.
“The 200 metres is a little easier for me to digest,” Okagbare said when asked what her favourite event was.
“The 100 metres is over so fast and any mistake you make is so hard to make up for.”
The Nigerian will be hoping she can keep her form through until the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro , where her versatility could well see her have the chance of becoming one of the stars of the track.
“I’m going to prepare and do my thing and yes I plan to push on and aim for the Olympics,” said the training partner of the US ’s 100-metre world champion from 2011, Carmelita Jeter.
“As long as I stay healthy and train the best I can. I must stay on top of my shape.”

eScan warns of Self-Replicating Worm that Infects Android Smartphones

has been recently discovered that is spreading throughout the Android world

Surprisingly, Andr/SlfMite-A also shows up on Windows systems. When

malicious websites. It also makes changes in the registry and system files so
that it can remain undetected.
When it comes to SMS’s, why
are such attacks more dangerous?
a.) As criminals directly attack the Smartphone of the user, it
becomes a highly personalized attack.
b.) Users generally respond to an SMS quickly as compared to an email.
c.) As it is a personal device, user may also have stored his/her
personal information such as account details or credit card info on his/her
Smartphone, for handy usage and quick transactions. This may also put user’s
personal information in danger.
d.) Such attacks can be executed easily as minimal interaction is
required for SMS phishing attack.
Fortunately, there are ways you can combat it. eScan suggests few tips
that can keep you safe from such self-replicating ‘worms’.
•Always have anti-virus software installed on your Android Smartphone.
•Never download any application in Android from untrusted source. It
is recommended that you only download apps from Google Play.
•Always be cautious about opening any suspicious looking SMS
web-links. It is advisable to never click on links sent through SMS.
•If you receive a mysterious SMS from one of your contacts, call them
up and confirm about it.
•It is better to delete any suspicious looking messages immediately.
