The Commissioner of Police in Lagos, Kayode Aderanti, has cried out at the way fraudsters have have opened several Facebook accounts in his name, warning Lagosians in particular that he did not run any Facebook account and should be wary of fraudsters claiming to be him on the
social media.
Aderanti who spoke out after some well-meaning Nigerians and friends had been reaching out to him via the social media, said anyone caught perpetrating the crime would be made to face the full wrath of the law.
Speaking through the state Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO), DSP Kenneth Nwosu, Aderanti said the account in question, 'CP Kayode Aderanti,' was recently introduced by some shadowy characters as the authentic Facebook account of the commissioner to Nigerians to give the impression that images being displayed and comments from the account were made by Aderanti.
"For the avoidance of doubt, the Commissioner of Police does not in any way operate a Facebook account, either official or private. The Commissioner advises all members of the public and in particular Facebook users, to ignore the said account as it does not belong to him.
We therefore advise the general public to disregard any comments, solicitations and approaches from this account as it is certainly not operated by the commissioner or any of his officers.
While efforts are being made to apprehend the character(s) behind this fraudulent act, let me assure the general public of the resolve of the command to sustain the tempo of crime fighting to ensure that Lagosians and all others who have cause to come to Lagos enjoy a conducive environment for business and leisure."
