The ANCYL in Tshwane have written to American singer Nicki Minaj’s management asking her to pay back the R10-million(N147,170,054) deposit she received from the City of Tshwane to perform at the Dinokeng Festival in Cullinan.
The organisers of the festival, TribeOne, cancelled the event because of safety concerns. They have stood by claims that the city did not meet its commitments.
According to a report on Eyewitness News, an agreement that would have seen the festival held in Cullinan over the next three years has also since been cancelled.
Minaj’s deposit was part of R65-million spent on the festival and is non-refundable.
But the ANCYL said that she had not earned the money and had a moral obligation to pay it back.
"She knows that she hasn’t worked for the money and there are many charities that she can donate the money to. We don’t want taxpayers’ money to be used on boob jobs."
The ANCYL also called on city manager Jason Ngobeni to resign and Tshwane Mayor Kgosientso Ramokgopa to apologise for misusing public money.
